God's New Creation

Boy oh boy! I've been studying a lot since my last entry! I thought I would share my "studies" with you. I have been trying to paint another picture for the show at  Grace Community Church in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Most of the time a painting requires study prior to beginning. Often there is a lot of work involved. I drew and drew trying to get thoughts and ideas in my sketchbook. My wife and I talked for a week and a half about the subject I should use. Then I cut stretcher bars and made a 30" frame then cut and stretched canvas on the frame. I had to prime the canvas and used 4 coats of gesso. THEN I started painting smaller studies. I did three versions before laying a brush to the final big canvas for the show. I have now finished the big painting and need to varnish it when the paint is completely dry. In these next post, I will try to show the three versions. Then I'll show the final version.

God's New Creation

The painting is done entirely with ultramarine blue and titanium white. This is my version of "pointillism," the impressionistic style of applying most of the paint with dots. This study is 8x10" on gallery wrapped canvas with the edges painted. It is ready to hang.
