New Old Business

After 32 years of performing as Rinky Dink, Humor Technician (clown), Arthur(itis) and the usual aging ailments continue to creep up on me. A man I met thirty years ago told me, “I didn’t know growing old was going to hurt so much!" Now I too have my good days and my bad days.

For those who may not know me or the clown, I will explain. I produced and presented 20 to 40 minute teaching programs for school assemblies and church ministry situations. I have also performed for birthday parties and festivals.

As I make this transition from clown back to my artist roots, I meet other artists who look at me strangely when I talk about ALWAYS being an artist. I have painted my face rather than canvas. And I have used all forms of art to produce the programs. Writing: scripts and advertising, sculpture: building 3-D props, painting: I paint those props and my face, sewing: foulards, neckties NO costumes! are all art forms I use. I also use music: for background, and drama and movement: performance.

I don’t usually do the “see my magic trick” routines. I integrate the tricks within the message, so it becomes an integral part of the program. I usually start by writing the script then finding or building the right trick or prop.

For the past four or five years, I have pondered  how to downsize my “stuff.” With over a thousand props, it took me two years just to photograph all my “stuff.” I am now in the process of building a web site. I will be advertising my site in trade magazines.

By adding pictures of my props you can see some of my other art. There are props from several different shows. I am including a fire fighter’s helmet, look at the shield on the front and the magic trick that looks like a squashed planet earth. From time to time I will show other items I have created.

Although I created this blog for information only. If you know of someone or are someone who might have an INTEREST, PASSION, a HEART for Christ and presenting messages that uplift, please get in touch. If the scripts were reworked, I'm sure the programs could be performed without clown. This person should have drama or performing experience. Serious seekers only!

Memories, Reel Memories!

Across the street from the college my daughter attends sits this drive-in theater in disrepair. It needs a big case of love! Sadly, one day in the future, someone will probably find another use for that land and this place filled with memories, reel memories, will become a memory. When that happens, its our loss.

Update

Its been a while since I wrote anything. I have been busy "i"reading (Is that a word?) on the internet. I have been learning more about blogs and found a new art website. I spent time looking, then loading. In theory, I should be able to do blogs, set up my own web site, and email updates when new pictures are added. I changed internet providers last summer and something got messed up with my old mail site. I can blog through Google which is alright but if I want to send a email message or fill out a form, it goes to my old email address which is now defunct.

I did paint an 8" x 10" painting today. It is a painting of lightning dancing through a Kansas storm. I have several more ideas for storm paintings in mind. I might make a series of storm paintings. I also painted some ACEO art cards. As soon as I get these all photographed, I will post them.

Check out my new web page!

Celebrate the Holiday!

I spent the last week painting these for Easter. Easter is, in my opinion, the most signifiant of the Christian holidays. It celebrates the resurrection of Jesus. I have never really studied the origin of the Easter bunny or the colored egg. My focus is on the resurrection. I have several items listed on Etsy from my clown days. Some puppets, a bunny costume with accessories. and bunny ears headband and puff tail. These items were used by my daughter when we presented some Easter shows. Check them out!

Easter Bunny and His Baskets

Do you remember those holiday decorations made of paper mache? We had several of those when I was a child. Here is an Easter bunny and his basket and a basket full of plastic (but they do look real!) eggs. This will look great when you include the "Easter Bunny and His Baskets" with your holiday decor. Painting continues around edges.

Chocolate Easter Delight

Give a gift of chocolate to your favorite someone this Easter! This chocolate bunny won't give anyone a tummy ache or a cavity. It is a delight for favorite person's eyes though. This little wall decoration will add a festive spark to your holiday! Painting continues around edges.

This funny little bunny looks like he is ready to dig in the jelly beans. What a problem! Would you eat the chocolate bunny or the jelly beans first? I'll take the jelly beans every time! Painting continues around the edges.

Empty Crosses and New Hope of Easter

Here is a little painting that illustrates the true meaning of Easter! It shows the empty crosses after the crucifixion along with the desolation and despair of that afternoon. But there is new hope of the resurrection represented by the flower in the foreground. Painting continues around edges.
